Sunh Fish - Sushi Making Central

I'm going to miss Sunh Fish - their old location that is. Currently at the Asian Market at Broadway and 11th for only a few more days, their new location is a giant space at 19th and V. It was only a block from my house, which made it easy to pick up some last minute shrimp or other seafood for dinner. Now it's a bike ride away. Good exercise, I suppose.

Sunh Fish has always been known by sushi lovers in the know as the purveyors of much of the seafood being eaten in the sushi restaurants in Sacramento. Many restaurants come here to purchase fish and shellfish that winds up on your dinner plate.

I stopped by to take a peak at the new digs and found a very large industrial space that was mostly vacant. When I asked what they planned to do with it I was told that they will be adding dry goods and other things to sell. They have decided to capitalize on their sushi reputation by becoming a one-stop store for all things sushi making. You will be able to pick up the best rice, vinegars, soya, utensils, rollers, and more. Even though they aren't a restaurant, they should consider a classroom space to teach sushi making as well.

I look forward to seeing the store fully stocked and all the fish tanks moved in. I know they will be a huge success because we've needed a quality seafood vendor in the midtown area for some time. Welcome!

A majority of the fish for this market and for the larger sushi restaurants is purchased from True World Foods in Sacramento. They receive fresh delivers of fish everyday.

I found Sunh Fish by accident my first year in Sacramento. My husband and I celebrate the Italian tradition of the Feast of the 7 Fishes on Christmas Eve and that year I found myself scrambling. We were still fairly new to the area and had not found a fish market. As you know the regular grocery stores are sorely lacking in this area and we didn't know where we were going to find 7 different types of quality seafood. Needless to say after a bit of research I was thrilled to find Sunh Fish. Though we are over in Carmichael I still try to make it down, as the quality does not have much competition in our area. Thanks for letting my know about the move, I look forward to visiting them in a larger space.

Thanks for posting this. We usually go to Oto's to get our sushi supplies and fish but its good to know of another source as sometimes they are out of the fish we like. Glad I found you via twitter!

Deon- I don't know where you get your information from but Sunh Fish gets absolutely NONE of their fish from True World Foods. I can't stand it when people speak about stuff they know nothing about. Sunh Fish has roughly 95% of the sushi bar business in Sacramento and huge majority of the fine dining, white tablecloth restaurants as well. Please stop spreading false information Deon!

Do they really teach sushi making? I have tried a sushi that is done by a sushi maker machine and I barely tasted the difference between the traditionally made and the machine made.
