Foodspotting at The Eatery

The Foodspotting Eatup gauntlet was thrown in Sacramento recently. The July Eatup was held at The Eatery in West Sacramento and the lucky Foodspotters who attended had no idea they were about to be treated so well! Chef Jess Milbourn had decided to test new menu items and served five well received dishes.

Harissa Bacon Caramel Corn
Peanut Butter Habanero Wings
Beer Battered Housemade Chicken Sausage Bites
Slow Smoked BBQ Pork Shoulder
Smoked Bacon and Vegetable Raviolis

I really love the fact that Chef Jess has a playful and adventurous style to his cooking. He uses a lot of flavors and has fun with his ingredients. You are always in for a surprise. I've heard his brunch is unbeatable with the biscuits and gravy frequently selling out. Guess I'll need to stop by.

Even with the five tasting dishes some chose to also enjoy the Happy Hour menu that was extended for the group. The most popular choice was the "Chicago Dogs" - small housemade chicken sausage with red wine ketchup, pineapple BBQ sauce, and peach mustard. I ordered the Mussels. The Eatery is also well known for the Disco Fries Ryan - fries with bacon, melted cheddar, chicken gravy and fried eggs.

Many of the attendees were already fans and regulars to The Eatery. They knew of the Secret Menu items that the Chef had created for them in the past. One item is the Dessert Burger made with flourless chocolate cake buns, peanut butter pudding burger, sliced strawberries as garnish, and a side of bread pudding fries with strawberry ketchup. The extra special touch is the cayenne salt/sugar that the fries are dusted in. Nice bit of heat with sweet and salty!

The most fun came when we invented a new dessert item. Taking a cue from the Disco Fries Ryan, we conceptually created Dessert Disco Fries. Next thing we knew, they magically appeared after Chef Jess  added chopped strawberries, chocolate chips, caramel sauce, and ice cream to the bread pudding fries.

With such a fabulous event due to the generosity of Chef Jess and The Eatery crew, any future Foodspotting Eatup restaurant will be hard pressed to match it.

The next Foodspotting Eatup is scheduled for August 29th at Red Rabbit. RSVP for the Eatup.
